Notes from Lecture

Creative Producer – Actor and Performer

Ethos – Total Theatre. Language alone is insufficient. Work is programmed to represent relevant socio-political issues head on.

Growing Network of Artists. With a wider ensemble network.

Physical Theatre

Producer – Making things happen. In a clear and cohesive order.

Active and Re Active Approach.

Dedicate and reach out to people. Active Programming Tour. Building Networks up.

Access to funds. Help other artists go see people that can help develop the projects and bring in inspiration.

Don’t leave baggage in the room. Be vulnerable but be safe.

Media Programming.

Organisations and aims and ambitions of the company.

Data Tracking around the area. Work closely with set designers. Marketing done digitally so it’s sustainable and reusable. Public Transport for environmental purposes. Actively exploring minimal set. Everyone in the room is a collaborator.

Funding structure comes from workshop programmes. Babel Labs, professional development. Loyal, well subscribed audience. Commercial Sponsorships.

2027 want to have a national portfolio with the arts council. Specific funding targets every year. Network of supporting in kind funder. Longevity comes from in kind funder and workshops which are run quite frequently.

Opportunities to connect and engage with a member of babel to help discuss with various projects and develop ideas. Look at funding bids etc.

Develop and Create shows with the idea of ‘play’.

Interrogate practice as an individual and as a collective. Placed entirely in our hands. Offer provocations. Collective Provocations. TOTAL THEATRE.

For Me...

As we will be working with Babel Theatre for one of the modules in the MA, it was exciting to listen about what the ethos of Babel Theatre is and what their practice is. Arron was also able to give us information on different kinds of support which are out there for artists, such as In-Kind Support and NPO (National Portfolio Organisations).
