Dolores Umbridge Deserves Better (2020)

Research into the ethical acceptance of Universal Hatred.

The most hated woman in the Harry Potter universe or the most misunderstood?

Members of the Harry Potter Fandom will see this woman and instantly feel a burning hatred, a slight revulsion. The actions of this woman have correlated with pure evil. But have we considered the history and livelihood of this woman.

Does Dolores Deserve Better

By examining the qualities and complexities of this character it exposes the very nature of how one person’s actions may be necessarily not the most popular but the most effective.

Exploring the social, historical and genealogical factors of Umbridge's childhood, this is an investigation into can her actions be justified. Is she merely just a commodification of the racial and prejudicial structures of her childhood. Or is she truly inherently evil.

Investigation or Explanation

This essay explores the nature of pre-judgement and the ethics into universal hatred. What we begin to understand is that this ideology of hatred is an easy wave to ride. It also explores the idea that going against this may be a stronger conviction than conforming to it. Through an exploration into the historical/social contexts of Umbridge's background it also critically analyses the reasons for her behaviour.
